Azienda Agricola Mizzon di Perusi Nicola.

The Mizzon winery, certified organic, is a historic company located in the heart of the Classic Valpolicella surrounded by wonderful hills full of vineyards, cherry and olive trees. The company’s vineyards are located in various areas between the Marano di Valpolicella valley and the plain of San Pietro in Cariano. The company focuses heavily on typical products, which means that it uses only native grapes: Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Croatina, Molinara, Oseleta, Dindarella, Pelara and Negrara. The winery has been renewed over the years in order to create an ideal space for the processing of grapes and the production of typical wines of the region. The fruit cellar is located on the upper floor and is the place where the grapes rest and wither for months, naturally and without haste, fundamental aspects for the creation of Amarone and Recioto. The ground floor instead houses the French oak barrels and barriques, and it is here that silence and quiet bring our nectar to fruition. In this part of the cellar you will also get to know our most ambitious project: the fermentation in terracotta amphorae, a technique used since Roman times.

History

Mizzon Winery’s story roots in a long standing farming tradition. During the second post-war period Giuseppe Mizzon, together with his brother Giovanni and their father, decided to shift from vegetable farming to viticulture. Since the beginning, they were renowned for their passionate commitment and for the excellent quality of their wines. As a result, they went on purchasing other vineyards without hesitation. During the following years they won several prizes. Their Recioto, a typical straw wine of Valpolicella, was particularly rewarded. Unfortunately, Giovanni died young. Giuseppe, then, tried to dedicate himself in farm animal breeding. However, destiny took its course…once arrived on the farm, the first two calves were actually stolen during the night. It turned to be a stroke of luck, as Giuseppe resumed the vine cultivation and was soon titled “Recioto’s King”. Notwithstanding, only his youngest grandchild Nicola followed in Giuseppe’s footsteps. As soon as he finished his studies, Nicola started to work with his grandfather and took over the winery in 2010. Adding new techniques and technologies to his grandfather’s traditional methods, Nicola revamped Mizzon Winery as one of the best Valpolicella wineries.
