Azienda Agricola Meroni
The native wines of the Valpolicella Classica
The Meroni farm is located in one of the 5 municipalities of the Valpolicella Classica and more precisely in the municipality of Sant'Ambrogio.
It extends over 15 hectares entirely owned, 11 of which are planted with vines after a careful restoration of those most suitable areas, already from the time of ancient Rome, when the area was the "reservoir" for the Empire from the Latin: " Vallis polis cellae" the valley with many cellars, the remaining 4 hectares have been maintained as olive groves and woods to respect the natural balance of the valley.
The company philosophy is linked to respect for the territory and tradition, starting from all the processes carried out manually in the vineyard for the cultivation of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara the main local native grapes, and the choice to use exclusively the grapes owned for their red wines.
The Meroni Agricultural Company was born in 1935 acquired by Carlo Roberto Meroni, the family estate is now managed by the grandchildren of the founder Carlo and Katia Meroni and consists of a rich vineyard behind the company dating back to the Napoleonic era the farm " Sengia”, and of the “Maso” farm located in the Grola locality on the last hill of the Valpolicella before the slow decline up to Lake Garda.
In the historic building dating back to 1706, the Napoleonic era, the historic cellar is dedicated to wine tastings and the wine shop.
The name of the brand "IL VELLUTO" linked to the line of products of the MERONI family originates from an ancient dedication of a famous Veronese poet, Berto Barbarani, who in 1943 wrote to Carlo Roberto Meroni to thank him for some bottles received in
"Meroni dear, we received the Sant'Ambrogio made of velvet that we drank to your health...
In these universal pitfalls we assure you that your bottles are the pharmacy
of families!.. ”
